  A great small store and lovely cafe. Great and very friendly and helpful staff.. Most Highly recommended . I love my walks up the big hills and lucky enough to capture this rainbow on Wednesday afternoon looking down towards Wye River beach and tiny town ship of Wye River.. I love the cuppa chinos and the sweet potato soup the other week..

  I was really looking forward to eating at the wye river general store as we had reviewed it and i remember eating there years ago. Once we arrived we took a menu and had a seat. Within seconds, a stroppy, aggressive young waitress came up to us and told us "she took the menus off the table for a reason" and that we shouldn't have a menu as the restaurant was shut and all she had was sausage rolls. We said we checked on the internet and the restaurant says it's open for another hour and she then went on to rudely accuse us of being wrong and even if that's what it said, it was for the general next store and not the restaurant. She then rudely stormed off. We were made to feel like a regretful and bitter inconvenience. Even if she was right the way were made to feel was very unpleasant. I review restaurants all around the world on my travels and the service and attitude here is rock bottom.

  Apparently Wye River is undergoing gentrification... the General Store wouldn't look out of place in Northcote (hipster central). Although this isn't necessarily a bad thing, the coffee was decent, the selection of beers was solid and the food interesting and we'll-presented. Definitely worth the 2 hour round trip walking from Kennet River.
